Ritual Objects - @Freitagsküche Frankfurt am Main

To mark the start of this year's Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt am Main, I had the pleasure of co-organizing and participating in the Ritual Objects exhibition at Freitagsküche in Frankfurt. The exhibition invited visitors to reflect on the significance of rituals in fostering togetherness. It was an evening that beautifully demonstrated how design and sound can create meaningful moments of connection and encounter. Eight artists showcased contemporary ritual objects and sounds that enriched the communal dining experience.

Bittersweet. — East Friesian Tea Ceremony.

In Germany, tea drinking is often associated solely with coziness and tradition. Yet the tea ritual embodies all the elements of a great celebration—hospitality, togetherness, and enjoyment. From bitter to smooth, growing sweeter with every sip, the East Frisian tea ceremony slows down time and captures the true essence of North German hospitality. For this evening, this traditional drink took on a modern, urban character, transforming into the Cosmopolitan of the present.

To bring the East Frisian tea ceremony into a vibrant, urban context, I reimagined the traditional teacup as a cocktail vessel, drawing inspiration from classic glass shapes and serving methods. This fusion of two iconic worlds created a fresh and unexpected experience.

We were generously supported by MONO with their Filio Teapots to brew and serve the tea. Their timeless design classics perfectly complemented the table’s aesthetic. The porcelain cups and creamers,  designed for this event were manufactured specifically for this evening by KOBER PORZELLAN, thank you both very much!

A big thank you also to PAPER & TEA for supporting us with a beautifully matched tea accompaniment throughout the whole dinner.
